On Humility
On Humility
3.18.2003 To despise one's self is not humility. Self-deprecation is only another, greater form of pride. If you are humble, you do not have humility. If you don't realize you're humble because you have a good sense of your limitations, you may be humble. Do not mistake pride with initiative. Do not mistake humility with cats, battering rams, purple telephones, or fear. I recently had the opportunity to meet a humble person. It was a challenge to my own life, as I tend to slip into the self-deprecation camp or the beaming smile camp that tries not to show it camp. At least I don't slip into the campy camp :).
